WHY MAPPING OF BUTTERFLIES?

The dynamic processes and changes in the environment are caused by countless factors. Seen from the view of butterflies (or moths) it can for example mean that certain formerly common species become rare or even extinct. On the other hand, some other species which were formerly rare can expand and become more common. For the interception and better understanding to these phenomena, a long-term observations and data series are the basic thing. Due to this, even a single indication stating the occurence of a species in concrete area has certain value. The mean of mapping depends on possibilities of a single observer, above all. A person can choose and modify for example the range of study area or the extent of observed subject (i.e. certain genus, group, family etc.). The role of butterfly mapping for nature conservation is unexceptionable as we can save certain localities inhabited by remarkable species only when we know that they live there…
